Last week we suggested Barcelona as a fantastic city break to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Next up in our blog series is Majorca – perfect for a peaceful weekend in the sun with mum!
Majorca (or Mallorca to the locals) is ideal if you want to switch off from home or work and catch up on some much-needed rest over cocktails and great food.
You could spend your days relaxing by the pool, lying on the beach or exploring the peaceful countryside. Taking a walk through the ancient Mediterranean port is a lovely way to make the most of the warm (and dry!) weather, and with the markets just next door, it’s easy to pop in and buy some fresh food for an evening meal. Fish is the most popular dish and being so close to the port it is as fresh as it gets. Along the port are rows of shops and stalls to browse through, selling everything from clothing to handmade jewellery – perfect gifts for those not able to get away with you.
If you’re after something a little more adventurous why not hire a scooter for the day? You can ride around the island at your own speed, taking in the wonderful, picturesque views while stopping every so often for a refreshing drink in one of the cafes, dotted all over the island.
Other activities available are catamaran cruises and snorkelling trips where you can make the most of the warm sea. Bay boat trips run through Spring and Summer, as do Majorca’s water-park, aquarium and Marineland, which are well worth a visit.
Save evenings to relax outdoors with a bottle of wine, or visit the Cathedral Le Seu, which is beautifully lit up at night.
