A recent survey has revealed that we are among the worst nations when it comes to tipping, with just one in four leaving a gratuity when abroad. The Italians were named the tightest when it comes to leaving tips, with a mere 23% of holidaymakers doing so, closely followed by the Spanish with just 36% claiming they would tip.
On the other end of the scale, Germans were named the nation that are most likely to leave a tip even more so than Americans, with 69% of Germans claiming they always tip compared to just 57% of Americans.
When it comes to leaving gratuities every culture has different expectations, therefore these small customs can often become baffling to holidaymakers, when visiting new destinations. Guidebooks are often a great way of clearly up any cultural confusions, but be sure to check that it’s an up to date copy!
