So you missed out on Glastonbury tickets again this year – but do you really want to spend the weekend knee-deep in mud, soaking wet and rocking (or rather trying to rock) a very unflattering rain poncho? Yeah, we didn’t really want to go either! So pick your chin up, dig out the glitter and dust off those flip-flops because instead, we’re heading to Europe to enjoy a bit of sun, sea and summer sounds. Here are our top 5 European festivals to head out to in 2019.
Hideout – Zrce Beach, Croatia
Some of the best names in electronic music come together for a five-day festival on Croatia’s stunning Adriatic coast. With five open-air venues, infamous boat parties and pool parties galore, every day is a new experience. 2019 sees huge names such as Rudimental, MK and CamelPhat performing on the legendary beach, so dance under the Croatian sun and party through to the early hours.
Bursting with massive rock and indie acts, Portugal’s hottest festival is coming into its 12th year. Last year saw names such as indie pioneers Arctic Monkeys and rock legends Pearl Jam headlining the main stage and a host of other top acts finishing the bill. Comfortably nestled between two of Lisbon’s beaches, NOS Alive offers a seafront location in the heart of a city centre.
UK Fest @ Rixos Sungate, Turkey
What can be better than a festival and a hotel all rolled into one? No more camping here! With legendary pool parties all day, big-name acts performing in the evening and all-night after parties, staying at the Rixos Sungate this May is the best way to kick off that summer. 2019 sees performers such as Boney M and Jenny from Ace of Base hitting the hotel’s grounds with Ministry of Sound hosting world-class DJ’s to keep you dancing till dawn.

AMP Lost & Found – Malta
Ever been to a rave in a historic Maltese Castle? Well now’s your chance! Lost & Found is an iconic festival for dance music lovers the world over. Check out huge names in the business in the most unique and varied settings all day and night. Daytime events include world-renowned boat parties, seafront pool parties, beach parties and even a rave in a castle! Then by night, head to the main arena – split over three outdoor stages and one indoor club, this is sure to be the biggest party you’ll attend all year!
There’s no camping at Lost & Found (hurrah!). Here’s our favourite hotel to keep you close to the action.
So we may have cheated a little here and picked two festivals – but this area of Spain is home to too many amazing festivals that it was too hard to pick just one. Sonar festival is held in the heart of Barcelona with big names such as the Gorillaz and Diplo making appearances in 2018. Enjoy the buzz of Barcelona city life and see the sights through the day before dancing the night away to some top DJ’s. Jumping on a train heading just south of Barcelona brings you to the picturesque coastal town of Benicassim. A small Spanish town with a very big festival, FIB is an eclectic mix of indie, rock and dance. With headliners including huge names such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kasabian and The Chemical Brothers, FIB is the festival to hit the beach all day and party all night.
