This is a great place to visit, average temperature beginning to mid September, approx, 30 degrees. Perfect, when the scottish summer can be, shall we say, a bit hitty missy. There were a variety of holidaymakers ranging from stag/hen parties to families and old and young friends. I found it a relaxing place, no problem with bags being snatched, although there were a few notices warning people to keep an eye on their handbags at restaurants. The sandy beach went on for miles, it was gorgeous, and a good way to keep fit at a leisurely stroll,if you fancied doing something a bit more strenuous than getting up of the comfortable sunbed (4 euro per day) to walk into the sea (ha-ha). It is mainly a flat landscape (although there are a few hills on streets behind the seafront) and has a good train/bus service to help you see other parts of the Costa del Sol nearby if you are on a budget. My pal and I had a lovely holiday here and met some good friends, especially at the Tavern.

Useful Tips:

The beach, there is plenty of good food at the restaurants, the Tavern Karaoke bar (run by Mike & Steve)(a great place to meet new friends and enjoy or have a laugh at their singing, the free "Blanket Trip" which takes you to "The Lakes", Andalucian horse show (brilliant), mosquitoes (I was bitten twice on the ankle), the local market (where bargains can be purchased), and to expect people approaching them to purchase handbags/watches/sunglasses/clothes.

We will deffinatly be back.

Useful Tips:

Don't forget about the back street bars, we onlt realised them on the last night and had a great night.

This was my first holiday as a solo lady traveller & to say I was nervous...! But I needn't have worried! OTB were great & very reassuring & very clear in what I needed to do every step of the way from arriving at the airport & collecting my ticket to booking in for the flight & getting the taxi to the hotel from Fuerte' airport. I then relaxed in my hotel & began a wonderful explorative week on the island. Caleta where I stayed is lovely & the bay is good for snorkelling. There are some nice restaurants & the people are very helpful & there are a good deal of locals who help you by speaking English & teaching you some of their spanish, slightly different from mainland. I had a car & went to cactii gardens, other coastal towns including small fishing ports on the west coast & down to jandia. Roughly I would say each corner of island is 1/2 day trip. The lighthouse "nearest africa" pretty scary narrow road (only 5mins if that) but worth it for the views!

Useful Tips:

Get a car and see the island! It has lots of traditional areas and pretty unspoilt in lots of places. Look for things to do by leaflets or word of mouth, there's enough there and well worth it rather than just sticking to one town. Its easy to make a day trip by visiting each 'quarter' of the island and exploring, and you feel you've seen and done something but not worn out at the end of the day.

Having never wanted to go to the Costa Del Sol have to say I was pleasantly surprised when we went there. It had so much to do for the kids, yes its lacking in character, but more than made up for it by the choice of shops and bars and restraunts. The kids had a fantastic time with plenty choice for them to be entertained. I would say that not the best place if your looking for spanish culture and sightseeing as there is not much to look at apart from hotels and buildings, but with flights being very reasonable its an ideal get-away, although we did find it quite expensive - but then everywhere with the Euro is now.!

Useful Tips:

If you are going self catering, go to the bigger supermarkets and stock up, we did this the first day and got a taxi back to apartment, we saved over a Euro on a pint of milk!! use the trains as they are fab, clean, frequent and very reasonable, the buses are also good. If you are a family of 5 then be aware the taxi's take a minimum of 4 persons, we had a friend with us and had to use 2 - which worked out quite expensive. We also took some provisions with us, things like coffee, chocolate which is all very expensive over there 1.90 for a tin of beans, so if you want them take them with you!!
