Vilamoura is a fantastic location with a wonderful Marina that just oozes class. It can be expensive due to the pound/euro but there are some good deals to be had in some of the many restaraunts in the Marina. Another place to visit is the old village which is not as high rise as the main hotel areas and is more laid back and quieter. Not sure what the nightlife is like for the young uns as we didnt do the early hours. We would definitely return some time. Not sure if its entirely normal but we had 10 days in September and saw nothing but lovely sunshine every day. The weather was brilliant.

Comments:
We stayed at 'Apartments Old Village'. The 'Village' is made up of a range of little apartments around 3 pools and a small 'village square' of shops, pubs & restaurants. It was set around 3 golf courses & there was a 20 minute walk into Vilamoura itself. It was very beautiful and relaxing holiday, and on days where the pool was busy, we walked to the long sandy beach & spent the day there. Then there was a nice stroll back up to the apartments via the Harbor & all the little shops. The apartment was clean & basic. We had access to a roof terrace, which had high walls to make it semi-private (& safe enough) for us & the kids. Although the downstairs balcony over looked one of the larger pub/restaurants on the complex, there was no noise or bad behavior at all. I also did my homework, comparing prices between 'On The Beach'(OTB) & other companies who used the complex & the deal I got through OTB was at least half their quoted prices!! I would go back tomorrow.
Useful Tips:
** Take lots of money, as the resort was expensive due to the £-Euro exchange rate, at the time we travelled. ** I would have alot more meals out as there were good deals around the restaurants in the Harbor. Don't feel you have to stay within the complex. ** Take your posh clothes, the place has money & you don't want to wandering round in Primark ** It would be a golf lovers ideal holiday & there would be enough to do & see for any golf-widows. ** There was a train/bus that travelled between the complex & the harbor, I think I would use that more. But we had a pram, so it was just as easy to wander down to the empty beach. ** The locals were all very genuinely friendly folk. Its things like that that can really make a holiday special, & they all spoke excellent English!

Comments:
A superb destination with many restaurants, all serving a great choice of food excellently cooked. The marina is a peaceful place with a magical atmosphere you can relax watching the fish in the water or you can wonder round the side streets and many shops. It is a destination I have visited many times and will definitely go again. Hiring a car enabled me to venture out into the rest of the Algarve which is truly a wonderful place with many different magical coves and beaches. No matter where you go you will find the people pleasant and very friendly. There is no better place in Europe I love Portugal.
Useful Tips:
The Marina is lovely with yachts of all sizes to see and many excellent restaurants along the waterfront. I recommend they hire a car it is not difficult to drive in the Algarve, this way you can venture out one place to visit is Silves and the old castle the restaurants there are superb. You will also find many beautiful old villages if you venture off the main motorway and of course Sir Cliff Richards's winery in Guia is a great fun day. Old Albufeira is a gorgeous place with tiny cobbled streets and entertainers in the main square. All in all no matter where you go, you will have a wonderful time

Comments:
This was one of the best holidays, the resort was very nice, lovely beaches and we had great weather, we like to go at this time of year because the suns still hot and its not as busy.
Useful Tips:
Querteira a neighbouring resort is within walking distance, away from the lovely harbour it gets less expensive.
