Comments:

I am very reluctant to let the charm of this little resort be known. Candolim is delightful with lots of exceptionally good value restaurants and shops. It is well positined for sight seeing. My only critisism would be for the sea - it is very dangerous if you are not an very, very strong swimmer as the current and tides are very strong and the beach shelves away really steeply.

Useful Tips:

The Sheetal Restaurant at the Silversands Resort is the best Goan food you will ever taste with very good service. Don't be 'over persuaded' by the guys in the jewellers (although OK, they are there to make a living).

On route from the Airport to North Goa(Candolim) you have to brave the hellish local driving, the constant sound of car horns and the stensh of the local fish market. Then you get to your Hotel, which unless it's a 5 star, will be grubby at the edges. The linen, due to the local red iron dust ,will be more brownish than white. You'll think my God what have I let myself in for. After a day settling in , a few hours on the beach and a fantastic lunch all your inital fears melt away. What a Paradise Goa is. The locals are very friendly and always willing to help. The beach shacks are like no others , drinks all day , a gormet meal and sun beds , usually for not much more than a fiver each. In the evening lots of restaurants and bars to choose from . I never had a bad report of any restaurant or beach shack in the two weeks we we're in Candolim. They are either good or excellant. After a day we knew like many others we'd be booking again for next year.

Useful Tips:

The local brandy is called Honey Bee , it's very cheap (£1.50 a bottle) and fantastic with coke. Leave plenty of room in your cases as you'll probably end up having a suit taylor made for less than the price of an off the peg budget one at home. Taylor made gowns too for the ladies. It's not too expensive to get internal flights to visit places like Delhi/Agra for the Taj Mahal. We did Flights, two nights in Delhi , train to Agra , car/driver and guide for a full day in Agra and a taxi tour of Delhi with drop off at the airport for under £150 each. All booked on the internet from home.

Comments:

Very spacious rooms, beautiful gardens. Great pool area and you just need to walk through the gardens to get to the beach. staff very friendly although reception can be very slow at check out. Beach is lovely and sandy. The only down side is the food is very poor but there are restaurants around which are very good and reasonable. If the restaurant was better this hotel would be perfect. A taxi from the airport to the hotel is 800rp incl the tip (about £11), so don't book your transfers with the travel agents! candolim beach isn't very wide, this is due to the River Princess which is a bit of an eye sore but is some what of a landmark now. Would certainly recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back.

Useful Tips:

You must have a ride in a TukTuk - they are fab! Go to the Mapsa or Anjuna markets either early morning or in the evening or it's too hot - avoid Fri for Mapsa. You can have clothes tailor made at reasonable prices. Diamonds really cheap - I paid £370 for a 1/2ct diamond solitaire in 18ct gold - with a written guarentee.
