Comments:

Calangute is fantastic for dining out, superb beaches and very friendly locals. Although a bit of a drag from the airport the sites on the way are very interesting. Weather is very hot and the beach shacks supply free beds and umbrella's if you use their facilities. Although the kitchen is very basic the food they supply is good.

Useful Tips:

Never book half board as eating out is a wonderful experience. Look out for Krishna's on the Baga Road, although it looks like a truckers cafe, the food is the best around. 4 meals with rice, nan bread and 4 drinks cost less than £13.

Comments:

Fantastic beaches, clear warm water. Food is seriously tasty and fresh, especially from the beach shacks. Plenty to do with lots of amazing sight seeing. Two weeks is not enough!! Goan people are very friendly and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble for them. When one shack found out we were going home and would miss their bbq, they sent a boat out the next morning to catch my boyfriend a lobster(his favourite) and cooked it to perfection for our tea later! Could not believe how cheap everything was, we drank and ate out every day (alot!!) and between two only spent approx £800 in two weeks and that included trips, prezzies etc. Would recommend goa to everyone, although i could not see much to do for children, but very safe and very welcoming.

Useful Tips:

Don't be put of by the appearance of beach shacks. Food is very fresh and seriously tasty. If you are shopping for clothes and can't find what you want, have it made for you and although things are really cheap anyway, barter as the locals love it. Look out for the local barbers. My boyfriend had a trim and shave with massage etc., and it cost pennies, he felt great for days! Hawkers can be a bit of a pain when you first arrive,be firm but polite and you can end up having a great laugh with them and they do give you a great deal. We had one taxi driver to look after us for our stay. He knew the best restaurants which we would never have found otherwise ('After Eight' restaurant is great), the best trips and got us really good prices. Watch out for anyone forcing their help on you at Indian airports, it will cost you and if getting a cab, agree a price before you set off. Although saying this, prices are embarassingly cheap.
