It was one of the most beautiful islands I have ever been to. There was plenty to do both in the day and at night. You need to hire a car as there are so many beautiful beaches to go and visit. Local transport is not very good if you are in a remote area. The locals are really friendly and will go out of their way to help you even if you can not speak english, they will attempt to try and converse with you. Snorkelling is a must as the fish which come up to you are amazing, especially if you provide them with some bread. The sea is azure blue and very clear. Food can be very cheap or at the other end of the spectrum very expensive. But, the greeks certainly cater for all walks of life. Agostoli (the capital) is very cosmopolitan with great bars, is vibrant and full of life. It has a square where locals often enjoy barbeque fish and greek salad. Fiscardo is a quaint fishing villiage. Captain corellis beach is just like it is in the film only prettier. I can't wait to visit it again.

Useful Tips:

It is a must to go to the capital at night. It is vibrant and buzzing with all sorts of people, very good if you like people watching. Kefalonia is an island which caters for all types of holiday makers. Fiskardo which is worth a visit, is a fishing villiage north of the island where it escaped a volcano eruption. You ought to visit the underground lake as it is really romantic and the oars man takes your picture as a momentum. If you do hire a car they are all left hand drives. This is not very good for the very small and dangerous mountain roads. They do not have much protection from falling down the mountainside. Skala is probably the best beach on the island to go to as the sea is clear and there are not too many bars. At night they close the main road off from the traffic due to safety. Everything is very relaxed and calm. it is the best destination to go to if you just want to get away from it for a while.

A delightful place , full of ''Old World Charm '', will always be a favourite destination !!! The only downside was the excessive amount of dog fouling on the pavements !!

Useful Tips:

The Caves at Nerja are worth a visit , there is a good shopping centre with lots of excellent local crafts ,a good bus service , plenty of very good places to eat , we did lots of walking and then also sitting about in the sun enjoying watching people kite-surfing !
