I visited Marsa Alam in August 2008 and have to confess I had never really fancied Egypt. I was Hugely surprised and delighted by this place which is still pretty unspoiled and I hope it stays that way. The snorkelling and Scuba was amazing, you can literally snorkel straight off the beach, my 5 year old was amazed by all the fish he could see whilst still stood up with just his head in the water. The scenery and sunsets were stunning and we all had a fantastic time. This is not a place to go if you want lots of nightly entertainment and our hotel was in the middle of nowhere but that suited us fine. I would not hesitate in recommending Marsa Alam to anybody and really hope to return there one day.

Comments:
Marsa Alam is an up and coming location that is the base for hotel resorts. There is little to do in the marsa alam area so holidays are based around the hotels, or the vast trips that can be booked. Great location for sun, sea and relaxing!
Useful Tips:
Taxis are expensive, hotel can arrange to use their mini buses so price this, as this can be cheaper

Comments:
A relatively unspoilt part of Egypt with an amazing coastline and beautiful beaches for lazing on. Much quieter than Sharm or Hurghada, but under much developement so may be as busy as Sharm in a few years time. Lovely people and amazing weather - very relaxing. Not many British holidaymakers, Lots of Italians and Eastern Europeans.
Useful Tips:
Buy duty free at airport or on plane - not much available locally. Take upset tum medication with you as expensive locally. Be prepared to be hassled by local shop owners desperate to persuade you to buy their goods. It was apparant that the Brits are considered "polite" and a bit of an easy target. Can get difficult to leave a shop without buying something. The airport is a military airport, and was very basic, and a bit intimidating. The couple in front of us were ordered to pay 100 egyptian pounds (about £10 sterling) to be allowed into the departure lounge by the customs control guys. They thought everyone had to do so,and just paid it, but this was not the case.

Comments:
We are a family of 5 and have been to this hotel twice and had a great time. The thing to bear in mind are that any hotel in Egypt that sells itself as a 5* is almost certainly not going to be by British Standards. I don't know what you would rate Brayka Bay Resort but I thought it was more than appropriate for the cost of the holiday. Firstly, the dive centre was the well organised, and enabled you to do whatever fitted in with your preferred style of holiday. Brayka Bay has a great house and we all enjoyed it. As far as the room goes, it was absolutely fine. Service was fine in the restaurant and they were great with the kids. It is a very large resort and there is only one main restaurant. We didn't have any problems and didn't meet anyone else that did. The entertainment is not great and was in Italian but we were there to relax, dive and the kids didn't seem to mind All in all we had a fantastic time. If you are a diver, you will love it for a relaxing break!
Useful Tips:
Firstly, the dive centre was the well organised, and enabled you to do whatever fitted in with your preferred style of holiday and the house reef was excellent and kept the kids all entertained
