Relaxation

Comments:

We arrived in Gran Canaria looking for some fun in the sun and were certainly not disappointed. The rolling dunes were picture perfect and made for a lovely backdrop for long relaxing strolls to the nearby beach town of Maspalomas. The nearby water park, Aqualand, was delightful and kept us entertained all day. Next on the agenda was an enchanting camel excursion through the nature reserve in the dunes. There was no shortage of watering holes to keep us refreshed in the evening after long relaxing days on the beach. Particular favourites were the red cow, dunes and tunes and molly malones. Ideally located half way between our hotel and the beach front was the pool bar, which as it says is a pool with a bar. Food prices were very reasonable for good wholesome portions. Beverage prices on the other hand were more average in their value. I would definately reccomend a relaxing retreat to Gran Canaria for good value and excellent weather. The sun was brilliant.

Useful Tips:

Aqualand is definately worth a visit. Look out for the Red Cow pub for excellent pub meals. The cuddly camel toys make for excellent souveniers and cheesy presents for loved ones back home. The dunes and tunes pub for nice cold beverages and simple bar food. It is well worth a walk down the sea front to Maspalomas for a day out and to find the start of the camel trail. Be careful of overly keen bar tenders trying to tempt you into their bars with promises of 'great drinks deals'. Have a stroll into and over the dunes for some relaxation and sun traps behind the dunes. Watch out for nudist appearing from the dunes since clothes are not compulsary in the dunes!

Comments:

Great place. Lovely beaches, with parasols. Golden sands and lovely promenede.

Useful Tips:

Lots of hidden shopping arcades. All was very quiet this year. This is our third visit and never seen it so quite. If you want the nightlife head for Irish part.

Nightlife

Comments:

Driving through the resort to our accomadation, i was like a child in a sweet shop. I was spoilt for choice of which bar i wanted to try first!! Accomodation, was basic but clean, and close to the Kasbah centre. The kasbah centre is a mix of bars and clubs and has something for most people, even a rock bar. You can sing kareoke, watch the footie in linikers bar, dance the night away in pacha and cream, so much to choose from, you'll not get bored. The only annoying thing is the ticket touts trying to drag you into their bars, with promises of cheap drinks, that arn't always that cheap. All in all this was my third visit to playa del ingles and hopefully won't be my last.

Useful Tips:

If you like water parks you should definatly try aqauland, a great day out, but take your own snacks, is a little pricey, or maybe its becouse i'd rather spend my money in the bars!

Comments:

Thre is loads to do in Playa del Ingles. The entertainment is based around several small centres spread throughout the town. There are noisy, quiet and family bars, lots of shoping malls and a fantastic beach. Our apartment led straight onto the wide, traffic free promenade. You can walk for miles in either direction. A must is to visit the Yumbo Centre - must be seen to be believed!

Useful Tips:

Yumbo Centre - mainly gay bars but very straight and family friendly. Sand dunes - they go on for miles. Boat trip round the coast - beautiful.

Comments:

It is a touristy place with lots of english, but if you avoid all the typically english places then you do find some lovely places to eat and walk without the "rabble"! We had a 2 yr old, 3 yr old and 14 yr old and they were very happy here! Children are welcomed pretty much everywhere! If you have a pram then the beaches here are not for you as you have to walk across sand dunes to get the best beaches... Luckily our pool was brilliant and the hotel was happy to let us fill a paddling pool for the 2 yr old so he could play all day!

Useful Tips:

The smaller restaurants and not the ones along the seafront down the hillside
