About Puerto Vallarta
Visas
British Citizens must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months after date of entry, and hold valid return or onward journey tickets along with adequate funds for the duration of their stay. Always check before you go, but currently no visa is required. Instead a Blue tourist card can be obtained for touristic purposes from your airline, or at the airport on arrival. These last for up to 180 days. Tourist cards must be kept during the entire length of stay as they will need to be presented and stamped upon leaving.
Timezone
GMT -6 (-5 for British Summertime)
Language
The official language is Spanish but English is widely spoken. 8% of the population also speak indigenous languages.
Jabs
Always check with your GP or travel nurse in plenty of time before departure as the situation can change, but it is recommended that you will need up-to-date Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid vaccinations with sometimes Diphtheria and Rabies depending on the season and region visited. Remember to take some diarrhoea tablets, just in case and only drink bottled water except where you see 'drinking water' signs in hotels. Boil any tap water before brushing teeth and avoid ice.
Electricity
220 volts AC, 50 Hz. UK style three-pin plugs are commonly used in hotels.
Currency
Mexican Peso (MXN; symbol M) and is divided into 100 centavos. ATM's are available in most tourist destinations and you can use your credit or debit card at most establishments. Some debit cards will not be accepted so check before you leave.
